The Tongass is estimated to store 20% of the carbon within all U.S. forests.<\/p>\n        <p>(One of the United States&#8217; landmark environmental laws &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/earthjustice.org\/feature\/national-environmental-policy-act\">the National Environmental Policy Act<\/a> &#8211; is sometimes known as the &#8220;Magna Carta&#8221; of environmental law. The Trump administration is attempting to significantly weaken the National Environmental Policy Act. Earthjustice and a coalition of 200 conservation, environmental justice, Tribal, and civil rights organizations are <a href=\"https:\/\/earthjustice.org\/press\/2025\/conservation-environmental-justice-tribal-and-civil-rights-organizations-submit-comment-letter-opposing-proposed-nepa-changes-at-various-federal-agencies\">formally opposing<\/a> the changes.)<\/p>\n        <button>Close<\/button>\n\t<p><mark>&ldquo;Our clients in the Tongass are Tribes that are in the heart of the timber region of Southeast Alaska.
